More and more green taxes are etablished to protect the environnement
Green taxes are an effective way. Indeed it's a good idea to use the price mechanism to change people's behaviour , because our societies are based on money now.
It allows to reduce negative behaviour because it's discouraging people due to the prices , for example thanks a 5p charge the use of plastic bag has been reduce by 80 per cent .
Besides green taxes bring an income to the state , so the governement can use it to provide public services or can give subsidies like when you buy an electric car.
But it is not maybe the best way, because if the tax doesn't take in account the income of the people, it will have economic consequences for poor people because it raise the price of life , and rich people, those who pollute the most , would not be bother by the tax.
And big industrials succes often to avoid the taxes or turn it in their favour , like in England where retailers earn the income of the plastic bag tax.
To conclude , green taxes are good idea and can have a significant impact , but their are many other way , like advertisment , or politic decisions like with the cop 21.
