    Bonsoir !

I am going to talk about the notion of progress. First of all I would like to give a quick definition of that notion. Progress is the idea that the world and the society can evolve positively in therms of sciences, technology, modernization, art …

How progress is represented in the contemporary Anglophone filmmakers?

We will see the progress through the science-Fiction with Orson Welles, Stanley Kubrick and Christopher Nolan.

"The War of the Worlds" is an episode of the American radio drama It was performed on 1938, and directed and narrated by the future filmmaker Orson Welles.
The goal was to convince an alien invasion in the USA. Normally, a radio episode is supposed to last 1 hour but the episode lasts almost an entire day. This episode was so realistic that it induces riot all over the US. Across the US, people believed that the aliens invading Earth.

2001: A Space Odyssey is a 1968 epic science fiction film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick.
The film follows a trip to Jupiter with the computer Hal after the discovery of mysterious black monoliths affecting human evolution. The film deals with the themes of existentialism, human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life.
This film was a phenomenal progress because it shows the space, men on the moon and the stars visions. Indeed, at that time, Neil Armstrong was not going to the moon.
It is considered the greatest work of art of the 20th century.

Interstellar is a 2014 epic science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan. The film features a crew of astronauts who travel through a wormhole in search of a new home for humanity. It’s a really realisitic movie based on the Einstein’s relativity.
Astronauts must test multiple planets to see if they are livable but the problem is that time passes differently in different places of the universe. For example, when Cooper and Amelia return to Endurance after 3 hours, 23 years have passed on Earth due to gravitational time dilation.
This document illustrates the notion of progress as it represents the pinnacle of science fiction movies. Christopher Nolan has also been heavily influenced by 2001 space odyssey.

To conclude, we saw the progress is represented by the science fiction through Orson Welles, Stanley Kubrick and Christopher Nolan who revolutionized the cinema which is also a form of progress.
