    Bac LVA/Notion of power

I will talk about the notion of progress. To begin, I will define it. Power is defined to a person, group, or nation having great influence or control over others and the ability or official capacity to exercise control, authority (The State, the government, and political organization). I will talk about the notion of mediatic power. How can media influence people?

To begin, I will talk about a document from the course. It is a picture from the website European Commission. We can see several panels. Media, Internet, Radio, Television, Magazines and Newspapers. Before, they had only newspapers and radio as media. But with technological progress, there are various ways to know the news for example. With Internet, some minutes after an event, we can be informed of this event. It’s the same things for the television. Every things happening in the world are now transcribed by the media. We are connected to the world without being on one hundred percent of the truth of what media tells us. They do not always tell the truth.

My second document is a color picture from an American website. We can see an American soldier during the Vietnam War. He has a weapon and blood in his hands. With the camera, we can see the same soldier, but with a boxwood in his hand. This picture represents the propaganda by the American media’s during the Vietnam War. Soldiers committed several killing. Not to tell the reality of the rest of the world, American newspapers have chosen to show the willingness of soldiers to restore peace without violence. People who read newspapers will be influenced by the media and will think that is the truth. But this is not the reality.
The third document, my personal document is a picture from an English website. It’s a poster of French propaganda. After the invasion of France by Germany, German authorities have created propaganda posters for the French population of the 1943. We can see German soldier with workers and factories. There is a slogan. “They give blood, give your job to save Europe from Bolshevism”. They wanted that the French workers went to work in Germany to create weapons; ammunitions etc that have allow to fight the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. while they are the real enemy because they invaded France. The media influence people’s opinions. Germans knew that if they used the media to spread a false or a true message, there would be an impact on the population, very attached to newspapers, posters. It was a way to control their thinking.

I think media is an element very important in everyday life but for each information’s, you must to check the veracity of the article. Mediatic power is so important it influences people's opinions. To have multiple sources allow to check the veracity and if an information is true or not.
