    Hello,have a good time.
Helping verb is also called auxiliary verb.
Take this sentence for granted:You have done a great job.
    "Have" is the helping verb.

    Hello,
As far as I remember helping or auxiliary verbs are as follow:
can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will and would
after which the base form of the main verb is used. For example: I can swim. You may go. You shall have a chocolate.

    hello

    Link

Looks as if 'helping verbs' are modals and auxiliaries ... You'll find a lot about them on this site ...
    Hope it helped !

    Hello,
Thank you for the link, here4u.
I DID have a look at the link you suggested. Can we consider DID a helping verb in the sentence I made?

    Hello
it's an expression which isn't used here ...(not used on Cambridge LD or Oxford, on ESL ...) Apparently there are 'primary helping verbs' = auxiliaries (is am are do does did ...; )
and modal auxiliaries => which amount to 23 altogether ... Other words for 'auxiliaries' ...

    @ clint! Hello !

From what I now know about this new concept for me, your 'did' isn't a 'helping verb'. It's not a modal auxiliary ... it's a 'frequentative form' indicating habit and repetitions ...
All is a question of 'names' and 'words' ...
