    Oral/Places and forms power
Message de orlinz posté le 10-05-2014 à 16:23:14
    Bonjour,

Mon oral du Bac d'anglais est dans deux jours et j'aimerais bien que vous me disiez si le texte ci-dessous est cohérent (pertinence de la problématique, fautes,...) et le cas échéant que vous m'indiquiez les fautes s'il vous plait. Merci d'avance

The notion I'm going to deal with is "Places & Forms of Power". Power can be understood as the ability to exerce a control on someone or on a group of people in order to be sure about how they act. There are several forms of power : the power of a State, the power of media, the power of money... More precisely, we may wonder which differents forms of power have influenced the history of the USA and how?

First of all, let's take an interest in the power exerted by the fear on the human. The fear to be persecuted has led the Pilgrims to leave the UK. Once they arrived in the USA, they've been afraid of the Indians, even if they were not threatening. So the Pilgrims killed them all and settle in the US. But when the English arrived at the end of the 18th century, the new Americans have been frightened and shot them too. Even if they get their Independance, white Americans voted the 2nd Amendment which allowed them to own a gun, because the power of fear made them be afraid of each other (? je suis pas sur de cette expression)

This has brought the rise of the gun power. This power is exerted by someone on another, that means that everybody can decide to end others' life.
So the gun power has enabled the whites to capture blacks in Africa, menacing them with their guns. As a consequence, the gun power has allowed the slavery. But once the blacks have been liberated, the whites have considered them as a threat so the KKK then the NRA born and have exerted their power on blacks by using their guns (for example, blacks didn't have the right to own a gun). But later, during the 50's, blacks have rebelled, demanding their rights so whites have been scared. They lurked into "white" suburbs and bought millions of guns to protect themselves.
To conclude, we can examine the consequences nowadays. First, there are whites and blacks today whereas it would be Indians instead. The association of the power of fear and the gun power has also led the american citizens to own guns. Even if there are often slaughters in school (for example Columbine in 19999), I think that it's impossible to turn the clock back, because the 2 forms of power we've talked about have taken the gun culture's roots too deep in the USA.
    ____

Qu'en pensez-vous? Est-ce cohérent et acceptable le jour du Bac?
