    Hello all of you,
Thanks a lot for working for me and with me ... You really did a good work ...

    1) My friend came and said : « I’m sorry I kept you waiting ! »
My friend apologized for keeping me waiting (to apologize for something/for + V + ing= s’excuser de )……….

    2) He’s going to get married : I don’t like it …
I don’t approve of his/him getting married. (to approve of + V +ing/ to disapprove of +V+ing)La forme ‘his getting married', ‘my singing’ ou ‘her smoking’) est BrE. et la forme ‘him getting married’(’me singing’) plutôt AmE. Elles sont toutes deux acceptées aux examens.

3)He’ll probably arrive late at the party !
He’s likely to arrive late (to be likely to do something = être susceptible de ) ‘He’s expected to ‘… était également excellent .

4)When you don’t sleep enough, you feel tired !
The less you sleep, the more tired you feel. Nous avons ici une progression parallèle (sauf que je vous ai un peu ‘compliqué’ la chose en la “croisant”; les constructions sont celles des comparatifs précédés de ‘the’: ‘the more she learns, the more she understands. ‘ ; ‘the less she works, the less she succeeds.

5)We can hardly wait to see the latest Disney film .
We are looking forward to seeing the latest Disney film. ( ….looking forward to hearing from you / to receiving your order’ etc.

6)Someone has told her what to do.
She has been told what to do (ceci est la voix passive banale).

    7) She said she knew what this woman taught.
She said : “I know what this woman teaches “ . passage inhabituel du discours indirect au discours direct . J’aurais donc dû proposer : «’She said she knew what that woman taught ». ) Sorry, sorry !

8)I waited too long before I showed them to her.
I should have shown them to her before /sooner.
OLD donne ‘rarely, showed’ CDL: ‘(showed, shown) Daily Writing tips : Lien internet

    English Irregular Verbs
The verbs in this group have distinct spellings for the simple present, the simple past and the past participle. Attention, contrairement à certains VI (to learn, to get …), ‘showed’ en tant que PP n’est pas (encore) accepté dans les examens. Play it safe !

9)As soon as her sister left, they all started laughing !
No sooner had her sister left, than /when they all started laughing. Ici, l’important était l’inversion du sujet après ‘No sooner + inversion de Sujet + than/when….’ than est beaucoup plus employé.)

    10) I’m sure they stole my laptop last night.
They must have stolen my laptop last night Yes, I know … it would have been clearer if I had written ‘I’m almost sure’ and that’s why I considered as correct all the answers of those of you who hadn’t guessed !
Now, for the ‘80% of certainty’, I don’t know what our native friends will think … but I’ve found them nowhere, and my native friends had a good laugh at them /me when I asked the question !

You’ve all done a good 'job’ ! BRAVO et merci de votre travail !
