    Raise / rise
    Message from mixu posted on 16-12-2013 at 02:49:15 (D | E | F)
    Hello ,

I would like to understand more clearly how to use the verb "rise" in this sentence below:
"Industry experts believe gold prices could rise even further as more economic gloom makes investors increasingly nervous"
Why don't they use the verb "raise" or "increase" instead of "rise"?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,

    Link

raise is transitive (it must have a direct object) and rise is intransitive (no direct object)
