    Comparison/in-on
    Message from angrepa posted on 14-08-2013 at 15:46:29 (D | E | F)
    Hello!

In exercise number 100582, sentence 1:
The house at the corner of the street is bigger than all the houses on the street.
My question is: can it be "all the houses IN the street"?
    Thanks for you help.

    Hello,

I think we just use 'on', or for specific streets like 3 Apple street "at" ,but I think 'in' isn't correct.
My teacher's explanation was: we use "on" for a surface and we use "in" for space.

    Hello,

I always say 'on the street'.
I have heard people use 'in the street' but in a different context. For example, one might say, "I saw her walking in the street".
However, as the houses are off to the side it seems more logical to say that they are on the street.
It's sometimes difficult to answer these questions because of the difference between British and American usage.

    Hello

I would say "on" and I think the differentiation that passenger75 made is a good one.
