    Get VS have/aide
    Message de kingdom59 posté le 04-08-2013 à 22:19:12 (S | E | F)
    Hello,

    Can you help me please?
I ask me if i wonder whether I have to use "get" or "have" , for : I have it / I get it.
    Which is the best ?
    Thank you for your answers.

    Hello

    I have it = I've got it.

    Therefore "I've got it" = "I got it" ?
It's hard for me to understand the verb "get" because of the prepositions. There are a lot of them !
    And I get quickly confused.

    Hello,

What you call get + preposition is in fact a phrasal verb in English. And I agree with you: it is not a piece of cake.
But here you have no preposition.
Notrepere told you that I have got = I have.
But now you write: therefore I have got= I got. Which is impossible because I have got is in the present and I got is a simple past.
e.g. I got a very strange message yesterday, meaning I received a very strange message.
And by the way, you should say:I get quickly confused and here you have get + adjective !!!
    Keep on going,

    Nick

I forgot to add that in American English "I got" may be used.
    Hope it was useful,
    Nick

    Hello

As I said, I have it = I've got it.

But the verb "get" can be used in many different ways in English.
"I get it" in American English means "I understand/comprehend it".
"I got some milk at the store today" = I picked up/purchased some milk...
"I get a coffee every morning at the local cafe" = I pick up/purchase a coffee
There are many more examples in the dictionary.
