    Some, any, no/help
    Message from again57 posted on 21-07-2013 at 10:26:18 (D | E | F)
    Good morning everyone,

Please, could you help me to catch anything about these three small words. Indeed, I followed a small English training with native English teachers (Among us there was one former moderator of anglaisfacile). Anyway! When I make some exercises, overall I don't make any mistakes, but, actually I know these words are not always necessary, but in practise I don't really know when I have to use them or not.
For instance, just above I have written "When I make SOME exercises", here it sounds like well right for my ears. But, maybe I could have written this sentence like that: "When I make exercises"

Another example: Again, one of these sentences above: "I don't make any mistakes" here again, I wrote it with "any" because, first of all it's a negative sentence and moreover I also need to express a quantity of something (number of mistakes). But, of course one more time (once more) it sounds good enough to my ears... However, I wonder if it would have been possible not to use "any" and "some" in both sentences?
If, anyone could bring me an answer it would be really nice of you.
Thank you so much for reading and answering me.

Thank you Lucile for your correction, but please would you mind explaining to me, if "one more time" and "once more" are commutable or not? It's just for my personal knowledge.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

Sorry,I forgot to put 'once more' in brackets. I'd say that 'once more' is more commonly used than 'one more time'.

Ok, thank you Lucile for your piece of advice. I wrote it and I'll try to remember it in the future.

    Hello,

"When I do some exercises" ...it is correct
"When I do exercises" ...it sounds better because it is not a restrictive/limited choice

"I don't make any mistakes" ...it is correct
"I don't make mistakes" ...it is correct too, but it sounds as if you never make mistakes
    Anyway I'd say:
When I do exercises I generally don't make any mistakes.

you do an exercise, except if you create it, then you'd make an exercise
you make a mistake, as it is the error you have created

    Hello Lucile,

Thank you for your help. Actually, it seems to be what I thought about that. Indeed, it's never false to omit "some or any", but there is a small difference in the meaning beetwen both ones.

    Thank you again Lucile
