Hello,

Could you help me please?
I have a question:
" I have worked here since the end of last year"
could you tell why " have worked" is used instead of " worked"?
I didn't understand...

Hello,

The tense used in the sentence you are mentioning is called "present perfect". It is used when the action begins in the past and still lasts in the present. The "simple past", however, only describes actions that begin AND end in the past.
In your sentence, the fact of "working here" begins at the end of last year, but it has not ended yet. That is why we say "have worked" instead of "worked".

It is the word "since" that prescribes the present perfect.
