    English is my passion
    Message from kary19 posted on 13-07-2009 at 21:44:05

    Hello to all members at this website,
    I'm karima 19 student in the department of foreign languages, "English Section" third year.
    I have a happy story with English Language, the story started in the past when I was 9, I chose to study English language, it ended that I succeeded in this language and I'm learning it now to take the diploma to be a teacher in English University.
    But I still gather the experience, 2 years only apart me to be an English teacher!
    I wish if you give me some advices to help other people in the future. English is the best for me and I hope all who love I'll help hil/her to be good in English.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi and thanks to all who replied here at English is my passion.

    I can help with this three methods to learn English easily:

    1- English should be your ambition, you should love it before learn it, because you cannot learn something which you haven't any passion about it.

    2- Reading stories, books, short novels, etc...and listening every day to conversation by native speakers. If you don't have time every day try to keep even 10 minutes for each day, and attempt to imitate the rythm of the native speakers, do it for a while.

    3- Don't think that learning grammar will help you speak English like the natives, but grammar teach you how to talk correctly.

    hello,

    I'm wondering how you can make something your passion, you either just love it or not, you can't force yourself to like something. I've noticed that most people here have only instrumental motivation, to get a better job, to earn more money, not everybody loooooooooves English and somehow they have to get a good level in it

    I want English is my passion. I have been learning it for more than ten years.I listen BBC half an hours every day. Now I am trying through internet. But I cannot change my position. Sometimes it seems to me, if I would have been in England for a year I could have done well. But it's a dream who will give me that chance. I keep trying myself and waiting how english becomes to me passion, and that is when.......

    Hi,there! Don't worry about that. First, it is a good habit that yon can insist on watching English channel. I think you should know that the progress of learning English is a progress of accumulation. Therefore, don't lose your heart and keep doing so. However, most importantly, you should take some notes and try your best to understand the information you get from the news rather than a few words you get. I hope you can try and wish you make progress in the near future. Good luck!

    Hi friends:

    Believe me that the easier order in learning English is speaking, me when I started learning English I found that I haven't any problem with imitating the natives to speak like them. People can imitate each other in the way of wearing clothes, dancing like the famous singers, etc... and take children as an example, they born like a white page but then they imitate all who they saw around them. You too I'm sure that you have the ability to imitate the English people. Try and try more then once. Listen to English every day. In the morning or at night etc... This is the real passion.

    If you have another questions, I can help

    Re: English is my passion by kary19, posted on 24-07-2009 at 17:04:10
    Hi, alexcq, don't worry about your English, when I read your message here it seems a good English, no need to be up set. You need to increase the time for learning English, and you also need to read a lot and to explain each word by dictionary (I mean English, to chinese), then read it again and understand it well. Then you should listen to English, it doesn't matter if you don't understand what you listened 100%. Try to write by your own style, like your message here (I love it) I think your English will be better than me. Don't say my English is poor, say my English needs to improvement, right? Try and tell me the result.

    If you have any problem try to contect me any time.

    Hello lovely Kary19!
    Please to meet you.

    Hopefully everybody's going to improve its language.So do I.Currently I live in London.So I do believe that the best way to excel in English is to speak with the Natives.Before it was very tough for me to understand Britons because actually American English is more understable than British English.When I first came in London I was both excited and nervous.That's why I was struggling every single day to catch bits of conversation.So I felt frustrated .It was just dreadful for me.
    Currently Londoner still speak Cockney especially in the East End.Phil Collins is a Cockney speaker.This is actually the British slang.Seriously it's too hard to understand them.Scottish get a strong accent.They usually roll the "R"s.And Irish do have their own as well.Sometimes you have to guess what they are talking about!That's crazy,isn't it?In the countryside of England it's a different way of speaking too.
    Kary,First I am really surprised because you do speak very well English and you are so young,only nineteen!That is amazing!Hopefully you'll be the greatest English teacher of Algeria.Besides I definitely agree that people must love English to learn it and enjoy it.Otherwise they'll find it so uneasy to memorise.As a result they get worried and distressed.Then they do not get delighted to learn this wonderful tongue,do they?
    In my opinion English is one of the best language of the world.English is obviously necessary wherever you are and whatever you do.However English can be found more challenging for some as opposed to others.All they need is a bit more confidence.
    Personally to improve my English I first used to watch British Television with English subtitles and mostly use a bilingual dictionary.Sometimes there were some idioms and collocations which were very hard to understand.So I looked them up on internet."Wordreference.com"has still been the most useful on line dictionary.I always copied all the words I didn't know in a book.It was annoying sometimes but I carried on.Afterwards I found out that I progressed in my English.I really appreciated it.The more I listened English speakers,the more my pronunciation got better.I am not saying that I speak like a native.But I do want to,that's my goal.
    Furthermore grammar is obviously primordial.In fact that ensure you that your sentence building is correct.That's why I am studying with a book entitled"Grammar in use"edited from Cambridge,University Press and also"Vocabulary in use".These books are just amazing.They've got several levels from the elementary up to the advanced level.My advice is to get them level by level.Don't say"Oh I needn't to take Elementary level because my English is quite good".Don't be in a hurry because I made the same mistake.So I started from the"Elementary Vocabulary in use".Oh Yeah!The best way to learn is to practise with only English written books ,not a bilingual book.However you can first use your bilingual dictionary.Then when you'll feel more confident,you can also use the English one.
    If you live aboard,it could be grateful to take the opportunity to socialise with the Native English speakers.They can help you with your pronunciation which is very important indeed.Some do have a lot of vocabulary and respect all the grammatical structure of the sentences.Unfortunately they stuck in the pronunciation.You want to say something very simple or to explain a complicated situation but nobody's got it.And this because they just misunderstood what your were talking about on account of your accent.I had the same matter before.But don't panic just use a simple words and structure. Everything's going well.So especially do not rush because you could lose yourself.Just relax,take your time and go straight to the point.
    Well I think I've spoken too much!At times I'm quite talkative.Never mind!
    Then see you later.Goodnight everybody!Oh dear all the written space's gone...

    Hi, as people have the great passion and strong love to learn and practice their language in various subjects and fields, they should be able to make
    good balance between the four skills of their favourite language. Moreover
    they should be trained very well to control these skills. Thanks.

    It is good to see everyone's reply.I am a beginner of learning english,and a chinese.When i am a Junior student,i have started to learn english hard.But now i am still a beginner,and have not enough ablility to speak and write english.It is so depressed.
    But now i know i should find more way to insist on learning.So there are three things what i will do in next learning time:
    firstly,remember more words;
    secondly,insist on listening more native speaker of english;
    thirdly,read more books of english;
    That'all,i know there is many wrong in my last words,so help me to learn well.
    Thanks.

    Hello kary,(and all english lovers)
    It's fine to meet someone who loves english that way and I can't help encouraging you.
    Having been learning English for ten years or so I still have much to learn.
    Although much has been said as far as advice is concerned, yet I wish the following would help you as well:
    When speaking english, try not to think in other language but English itself.
    Thus you can avoid paraphrasing and get rid of those tricky words and the faux-amis(which you have to get used to and even learn them by heart).
    Express yourself with your own word and make English yours.
    (By the way, don't be afraid to speak aloud just for you to hear your own pronounciation so that you can improve it/you can have your own accent though it is better to speak like a native (a stay in London will surely help, if it be possible for you of course; if I could I would)
    PS:Today's page (in the site) will be helpfull for you.
    Do carry on dear, English is worth your struggle. go on
    wish you the best,
    london
