    Bel endroit pour une rencontre.

    Message de violet91 posté le 08-04-2008 à 13:39:19

Bonjour, friends.

    See you.

Scorching weather had been lasting more than a week long. Even in that nice place conducive to daily cool and well-being, stuffy nights had turned to be as tiring as days.

Louis couldn’t get to sleep. He was lying prone with his head burrowed beneath the pillow, the tepid sheets chafing his skin. He sprang out of bed, had a glance at his watch. It was past two half.(1) He got out. The night was very clear. He crossed the maritime pines forest and, all on his lonesome, he walked up to the sand dunes that in the moonlight looked like snowy hills. Behind in the distance, the sea was hissing its balanced backwash.
He was eager to get cooler: to breathe in that mild salted sea spray, whew!

All of a sudden he made out the outlines of a shape walking ahead at a brisk springing pace. It was a woman. She was wearing a sort of cape which the wind puffed out as a sail(2), a sail that seemed to drift her forward. It was odd he should never catch her up.

She was walking heading to the sea. He followed her up. For long they walked forward across the snowy dunes. As soon as she reached the water’s edge she dropped her clothes: she was naked in the limpid night. She rushed into the breaker waves. Louis, as to take her off, took off his clothes and went on her heels into the water. At that very moment only she just caught sight of him.

At first she stayed on her guard. Then, as she could see in the moonlight Louis’ youthful body, his nice face, his smile, she got freed from any slightest fright. He swam towards her. They smiled at each other. Louis’ smile although at night was bright; the young lady’s likewise. They could make out nothing but the shining of their smiles and the perfect outlines of their bodies.

    (1) It was past two half/gone two half. American easy as pie expression, thus universal.
It was past half after two. (as I said at first) Fussy expression of Americans who are stuck to their lingo in a quant-à-soi attitude.
Gone half past two, as the best of us told it, is the best way to tell it as do the subjects of Her Most Gracious Majesty and all their peers. Cela va de soi.
Waiting for Violet’s decision on this point.

    (2) As most of my co-translators I took Violet’s “un voile” as a slip of the pen and took it for “une voile” because you see so many sails at sea. Veils prevail by fondamuntalist Muslims.

    Hi violet

    Nice place for an encounter

The heatwave had lasted for more than one week now. Even in this beautiful place meant to coolness and daily well-being, the airless nights had become as tiring as the days.
Louis could not get to sleep. Lying on his stomach, his head buried beneath the pillow, his skin irritated by the tepid sheets he jumped out of the bed, glanced at his watch, it was gone half past two. He went out. The night was very clear. He went through the pines forest and walked in a complete solitude to the sand dunes which, beneath the full moon, were like snowy hills. Behind them, he could hear the steady waves. He couldn't wait to refresh himself, to breathe this gentle salty breeze at last !
Suddenly he saw a figure walking nimbly and quickly in front of him . It was a woman. She was wearing a kind of cloak swollen like a sail by the wind and which seemed to drag her forward. He will never catch her up.
She was walking towards the sea. He followed her. They moved forward a long time on the snowy dunes. Once on the seaside, she threw her clothes on the ground : she was naked in the clear night. She rushed in the breakers. Louis
to do likewise undressed and followed her into the water. It's only then that she saw him.
First, she remained careful. Then, she managed to see Louis's young body under the moon, his nice face, his smile, she didn't feel the slightest fear any more
He swam towards her. They smiled at each other. Louis's smile in the night was dazzling, the young woman's too. They could not make out anything but the radiance of their smiles and the perfect figures of their bodies.

Nice beginning for this story, let's hope it will not end like the previous one ! Thanks Violet, whatever the end..

    Hi Violet

The heatwave had been around for more than a week. Even in this nice place favorable to coolness and daily well-being, the windless nights had become as tiring as the days.

Louis couldn't get to sleep. He was lying on his belly, his head buried deep in his pillow and his skin annoyed by the warm sheets. Then he jumped out of bed and glanced at his watch. It was gone half past two. He walked out of the house. It was a clear night. He walked across the maritime pine forest, all by himself until he got to the sand dunes which, with the full moon, looked like snow-covered hills. He could hear the regular sound of the waves in the sea behind him. He couldn't wait to get some fresh air and start filling his lungs with this salty air, at last !

Suddenly he noticed someone walking fast but carefully in front of him. It was a woman. She was wearing a kind of cape the wind kept blowing into like a veil and that seemed to make her walk even faster. It seemed that there was no way he could possibly catch her up.

She was heading toward the sea. He followed her. They walked on the snow-covered dunes for a long time and then they arrived on the shore. She took off her clothes and dropped them to the ground. She was naked in the clear night. She started running into the water. Louis took off his clothes as well and followed her into the water. This is when she saw him.

First she was a little wary but then when she saw Louis' young body in the full moon, his nice face and smile, all her fears vanished. He swam to her. They smiled at each other. Louis' smile was radiant even in the dark and so was the young woman's. They could make out nothing but the beauty of their smiles and the perfect lines of their bodies.

Thanks for posting this new exercise

Hello Violet91. Thank you for that new exercise.

    Nice "place for a meeting"

The scorching heat had raged for more than a week. Even in that beautiful place favourable to coolness and daily wellbeing, nights without air had become as tiring as days.

Half pas two have passed. He went out. The night was very light. He crossed trough the forest of seaside pines and walked, in the total loneliness, as far as the dunes of sand which, in the full moon, looked like snow-covered hills. Behind them, the sea those he heard the regular waves. He was in a hurry to refresh himself. To breathe that soft and salted breeze, at last !

Suddenly, he noticed a figure who was walking ahead of him, with a light and speedy step. It was a woman. She wore a kind of cape, which the wind blew up like a veil and seemed to push her ahead. He would never catch up with her.

She was walking towards the sea. He followed her. They have walked for a long time on the snow-covered dunes. Arrived at the seaside, she threw her clothes at her feet : she was naked in the light night. She rushed into the breaker waves. Firstly, she was on her guard. Then, when she could see the young body of Louis under the moon, his beautiful face, his smile, she has not felt the lest fear anymore. He swam towards her. They smiled to each other. The smile of Louis, even during the night, was bright : those of the woman too. They could not see anything else except the brightness of their smiles and the perfect lines of their bodies.

    Hi,

The scorching heat had been lasting for more than one week. Even in that beautiful place where coolness and wellness were usual, nights free of air had become as tiring as days.

Luis couldn't get to sleep. Lying on his stomach, his head buried on the pillow, his skin irritated by tepid sheets, he jumped out of his bed. He looked at his clock watch. It was more than half past two. He went out. The night was very clear. He passed through the seaborne pine-trees and walked, in a complete solitude, up till sand dunes which, beneath the full moon, appeared like snow-covered hills. Behind them, he heard regular waves deriving from the sea. He was in a hurry to refresh himself. To breathe that sweet-tempered and salty breeze, at last!

Suddenly, he caught sight of a figure which was walking in front of him, quickly but lightly. It was a woman. She wore a kind of cloak, that the wind blew like a sail. The wind seemed to sweep along her forward. He could never overtake her.

She was walking towards the sea. He followed her. They walked for a long time in the snow-covered dunes. Arriving oceanfront, she threw her clothes away: she was nude in the clear night. She bolted into breaking waves. Louis, in order to imitate her, took his clothes away and followed her in the sea. It's just at this moment she saw him.

In a first time, she was wary of him. Then, when she could see Louis's young body beneath the moon, his good-looking face, his smile, she didn't feel frightened. He swam towards her. They smiled at each other. Louis's smile was shining, even in the night, like the smile of the young woman. They couldn't see anything else that their shining smiles and the perfect outlines of their bodies.

Et bien, finalement j'ai tout traduit^^. Merci pour cet exercice "violet91"

What a 'delightful place for an encounter'.
The dog's days had been ruthlessly lasting for more than one week. Even in this beautiful place, so favourable to freshness and daily well-being, the stuffing nights had become as exhausting as the days.
Louis could not find sleep. Lying supine, his head buried in his pillow, his skin aching with the heat of the sheets, he jumped out of bed. he had a look at his watch. It was half pas two in the morning. He went out. The night was very luminous. he walked across the pinetree forest and walked, in utmost loneliness, towards the sandhills which, in the full moon, looked like snow-covered hills. Beyond them, the sea, whose regular waves he could hear. He ached for something cool. At last to breathe that salty air, at last!
All at once, he saw a figure walking before him with a quick, light step. That was a woman. She wore a kind of long shawl, which the wind blew up as some sort of sail and which seemed to draw him forward. Never would he be able to catch up with her.
Se was walking towards the sea. He followed her. They marched on for a long time upon the snowy dunes. When she reached the seaside, she dropped her clothes down to her feet: she stood naked in the light of the night. She rushed into the surging waves. Louis, in imitation, took off his clothes, and followed her into the water. Then only did she notice him. At first, she was wary. Then, when she could see Louis' young body in the moonlight, his beautiful face, she no longer felt any fear. He swam towards her and they smiled to each other. Louis's smile, even by night was luminous; so was the young woman's. They could not make out anything else than the light of their smiles and the perfection of their figures.

thank you: that was great fun!

    ----------------------- NICE "PLACE FOR A MEETING "----------------

The scorching heat had been bearing down for more than a week. Even in this beautiful place with its tendency for coolness and everyday well-being, the stuffy nights had become as fatiguing as the days.

Louis couldn't get to sleep. Stretched out on his stomach, his head buried in the pillow, his skin rubbing the warm sheets, he jumped from the bed. He looked at his watch. It was past two-thirty. He went out. The night was very clear. He traversed the maritime-pine forest and walked, in the most total solitude, to the sand dunes that, under the full moon, looked like snowy hills. Behind them, the sea whose waves he heard regularly. He couldn't wait to cool down. To breathe that sweet salty air, finally!

Suddenly, he noticed the outline of a person walking in front of him, with a quick and light step. It was a woman. She was wearing some sort of cape, that the wind inflated like a sail and that seemed to drag along in front. He never did catch up with her.

She was walking in the direction of the sea. He followed her. They kept going for a long time on the snowy dunes. Arriving at the edge of the water, she threw her clothes to her feet; she was naked in the bright clear night. She rushed into the surging waves. Louis, in order to imitate her, took off his clothes and followed her into the water. It wasn't until then that she noticed him.

At first, she stood guarded. Then, when she was able to see Louis's young body in the moonlight, his beautiful face, his smile, she no longer felt the slightest fear. He swam toward her. They smiled at each other. Louis's smile, even the night itself, was dazzling; the young woman's, equally so. They couldn't make out anything other than the radiance of their smiles and the perfect curves of their bodies.

according to a "liberated" woman under the Tropic of Capricorn!..

The heavy heat had been lasting for more than a week. Even in that nice place meeting to daily cool and well-being, suffocating nights had turned as tiring as days.
Louis couldn't get asleep. He was lying flat, his head beneath the pilow, his skin ecumbered by warm sheets : he jumped out of bed. He had a glance at his watch. It was more than half past two. He went out. The night was very clear. He crossed the sea pines forest and walked, in a deep loneliness, up to the sand hills which looked like snowy hills. Behind them, he could hear the regular waves. He was eager to get cooler. Breathing this sweet salted breath, at last !
Suddenly, he caught sight of a silhouette walking ahead, stalking along. This was a woman. She was wearing a sort of cape puffed out by the wind as a seal which seemed to weep her along. He could never catch her up.

---------------------A delightful site for a meeting---------------------------

The heatwave, at its height, had been lasting* for more than a week. Even in that beautiful resort propitious for coolness and daily well-being ,stuffy nights had become as exhausting as days.

Louis just could not get a wink of sleep. He was lying prone, with his head in the pillow. The tepid sheets made his body fidgety and his skin irritated. He jumped out of bed and had a quick glance at his watch. It was round after half past two a.m .He went out.
The night was clear. He went through the maritime pine-trees' forest then reached the sand-dunes and complete solitude. The dunes shone like snowy hills in the white moonlight. Behind them, lay the ocean whose rhythmic movements he could hear. He was eager to cool down . Breathing such a soft salty breeze, at last !

And then,he caught sight of a figure walking fast and lightly. It was a woman. She wore a kind of cape which the wind blew like a sail and she seemed propelled by it. He would never catch up with her.

She was proceeding to the sea. He followed her. They walked in the snowlike dunes for a long while. At the ocean's edge, she flung off her clothes and stood naked in the summer night. She ran into the surf. And Louis, in imitation, discarded his clothes and ran into the water too. Only then, she saw him.

At first, she kept on her guard. Then, as she could see ,in the full moon, Louis's young body, his charming face, his smile , she did not feel the slightest fear any more. The smile * of Louis ,even at night, was bright, so was the one of the woman. They could hardly distinguish anything else but the brightness of their smiles and the perfect outlines of their bodies.

La famille repart à New York(1939).

"DO YOUR OWN THINGS" est un slogan qui lui convient.

-En 1974 , elle est "Elected to the National Institute of ARTS and LETTERS"

    - Poèmes en prose "in surrealistic style".

    - -"Wonderful" erotic short stories.

    - Romans et essais.

    -JOURNAL D'ENFANCE (1914-1919)(1919-1920)

    - JOURNAL (1931-1966) (6 volumes)

    - THE EARLY JOURNAL ( diary).(1914.1919)[ Le journal de l'inceste ? ]
    (1919-1920)

    - " Etre une femme" (Essais)

    - "VENUS EROTICA "(short stories).

    - "Les cités intérieures" (roman)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    - " IT IS ALL RIGHT FOR A WOMAN TO BE ,ABOVE ALL, HUMAN ! I AM A WOMAN FIRST OF ALL !" ( Diary.1966)

5 ) To last : "That is another question!" It lasts otr it doesn't! Comme les verb.d'opinion, volonté,perception,sentiments..Mais ,il y a des contr'exemples :to be wanting (désirer physiquement),to be thinking :réfléchir.; to be finding "EuREKA" pour un chercheur..Donc,chaleur accablante qui s'éternise....BE+ ING (pour moi).

    6 ) More than = over.

7 ) A resort (seaside or skiing) :station.:me permet de varier avec "place".

    8 ) Well-being : bien-être ,en général. Well-fare: à protéger.

9 ) Not to get a wink (clin) of sleep : ne pas fermer l'oeil.

Possessifs: his head, his skin.:I and you too (my son!) wash ourselves ,our bodies, our hairs(recatégorisation),brush our teeth twice or three times a day ."Billy Liar"!!!(1959 ,a novel by Keith Waterhouse)

12 ) To be fidgety : être agacé,irrité de mouvements irrépressibles ,s'agiter dans tous les sens ,ne plus tenir en place.

    13 ) Tepid :tiède,moite. Luke(comme Lucky)['lu:k]: température (eau)

14 ) Half past two a.m (ante-meridiem # p.m post--Green(w)ich Mean Time: heure GMT.

15 ) His skin :sa peau. ("Skinned Heads" berk!) Tanned skinned Louis!(bronzé)

16 ) Traverser, marcher, avancer,se diriger.."another rub"(un autre "os" de la langue anglaise; en littérature,évitons les répétitions!)tout dépend du moyen de locomotion.: on foot, you walk, advance, proceed, stroll, run, rush to, through..--to swim to,across--to fly to, over--to ride (cheval, vélo,moto)--to drive to ,to head to (en auto, Papa!)

    17 ) Sand-dunes (pléonasme ?)A. Nin l'a dit! je la crois!(hills:collines; tops:hauteurs;slag heaps :terrils).

18 ) Solitude (choisie)( Henry Purcell "Music for a while" 1685: "Solitude" chantée par le greatest hautecontre Alfred Deller : 6 minutes de BONHEUR!) Loneliness est forcé et triste.

19 ) To breathe (th dur; sur les dents)[bri:th] # breath :respiration (th doux :effleuré sur les dents)[breth] "Hold your breath" : "Ne respirez plus!"Nous devons être plus pessimistes!

20 ) To be in a hurry (pressé); to look forward+ing (ça tarde);to be eager to : être avide de (il ne faut plus attendre).

    21 ) Salty : embruns(aux lèvres,au nez) . Salted :salé (au goût):water and food.

25 ) Le beau attend l'occasion: to throw off

25 ) Le beau est donc lui aussi pressé (il attend le feu vert) : to throw, threw ,thrown (pour cx qui)out, to cast aside , to strip off..

26 ) Naked ['neikid]: tout(e)nu(e) .Anomalie phonétique ,seulement : comme "beloved" [bi'leuvid] .In the nude : aux beaux Arts plutôt : a "nu". Barefooted : pieds nus. "Barefoot" sport nouveau : ski nautique sans ski!

    27 ) The breaking waves , the surf (à l'origine du windsurfing, évidemment) .
" Breaking the waves", magnifique et terrible film de Lars Von Trier( 1996): Palme d'Or à Cannes.

So was ...aussi. Also et too deviennent "fades" : pardon me.

Donc anything else except .

-" If what Proust says is true , that happiness is the absence of fever, then I will never know happiness. For I am possessed by a fever for knowledge , experience and creation."

    Dear Violet,
