    Seriez-vous capables de tels propos?
    Message de violet91 posté le 04-12-2007 à 23:37:07 (S | E | F | I)

    Bonjour, chers compagnons de ligne,

    Considérant ce "tongue-twister" ( vire-langue ) : "How much wood would a wood-chuck chuck if a wood-chuck could chuck wood ?
    Good luck !

See you later, alligator(s)!

    1/2 bon!!

Another fantastic exercice, dear Violet !!
    miam miam miam !

    Here is my answer :

    1. Would you dare hold such a talk with a stranger ?
    2. Had she at least knocked at the door, I would have known that it was her !
    3. If only he rang me up every evening, when abroad, I would not worry so much !
    4. Would he not have fancied another beer ?
    5. Had I known it be that, I would not have come (round).
    6. They perfectly knew they would not pay back the Marx, their next-door neighbours. To buy both a male and a female avocado tree !
    7. Had it bucketted down (had it rained cats and dogs), I would have come all the same.
    8. Even if I had explained it to her into the slightest detail, she would not probably have wanted to believe me.
    9. If he had not had to say "Tu quoque, fili mi", Julius Caesar would not maybe have been killed by Brutus' very blade. (dear violet, I do think the logical way of this sentence is : "If he had not been killed by Brutus, JC would not probably have had to say "Tu quoque, fili mi" !)
    10. No accident of this kind should have occured if all of them had had known about the smouldering fire.

Thank you very much ! Keep giving us such exercises !!!

    cheers,

    j.

    Hello, Violet

1-Would you be able to say that to a stranger?
2-Had she knocked,at least, I would have known it was her.
3-If only he calls me every evening when he is abroad, I wouldn't be so worried.
4-Wouldn't he have liked another beer?
5-Had I known that it was so, I would not have come.
6-They certainly knew that they would not re-imbursed the Marx, their nrxt door neigbours. Buy a male and female avocado plant!!
7-Had it rained cats and dogs,I would have gone anyhow.
8-Even though I had explained every thing minutely, no doubt that she would not have believe me anyhow.
9-Had he not had to have to say"you too, my son", Jules Cesar would not have been killed by Brutus'own sword.
10-No accident of that sort should have occured if everyone had known about the smouldering fire.

    Hello Violet !

    1) Would you dare say such things to a stranger ?

    2) Had she at least knocked at the door, I would have known it was her !

    3) If only he called me up every night when abroad, I wouldn't get so worried.

    4) Wouldn't he have fancied another glass of beer / one glass of beer more ?

    5) If I had known it was that, I wouldn't have come !

    6) They did know they wouldn't pay back the Marx, their next-door neighbours ( their neighbours on the same floor ?). To buy a male avocado and a female one too !

    7) Had it been pouring down, I would have gone there even so.

    8) Even if I had explained it in great detail, she would have probably refused to believe me / she would have been highly likely not to believe me.

    9) If he hadn't had to say " You too, my son !" ( Tu quoque, fili !), Julius Caesar might not have died from Brutus's own sword...

    10) Such an incident should have never occurred if everyone had been aware of the smouldering fire.

I would just say hem !...and thank you !

Dear Violet, voici mes quelques propositions....

    1) Would you be able to speak that to a stranger you don't know ?
    2) Had she knocked, at least, I would have known it was her ?
    3) If only he could call me every evening, when he is abroad, I would not worry so much !

    6) They perfectly knew that they would not be paid back by the Marx. To buy a male avocado tree and a female one !
    7) Had it rained very much, I would have gone there, in any case.
    8) Even if I had explained it all the smallest details, she would probably not have believed me.
    9) Had he not had to say " you too, my son " Jules César would not have perhaps been killed by Brutus's own sword.
    10) Nothing of that kind should have occurred if everyone had felt the fire smouldering.

    Ouf !

Thank you Violet for this exercise but...it's very difficult for me !

    quelques libertés prises

-Would you dare to set forth such talk to a stranger?
-Had she knocked, at least I would have identified her.
-I wish he would phone me every evening while he's abroad I would be that cool.
-Wouldn't he have liked to drink another glass of beer?
-If I had been aware of that I wouldn't have come.
-They full well knew they wouldn't pay the Marxs back their next-door neighbours.
-Even though it had rained shower, I would have gone over there anyway.
-Even if I had entered into the minor detail, she maybe wouldn't have trusted me.
    - He shouldn't have said "you too my son" Julius Caesar wouldn't have been killed by Brutus' own broadsword.
    - That kind of event wouldn't have occurred if everybody had been aware of the fire setting.

    pour le casse-tête

    Bonjour violet91,
    1. Could you say such words to a stranger?
    2. Had she knocked, then, I would have known it was her!
    3. If only he phoned me every evening, when(he is) abroad, I wouldn't worry in this way.
    4. Would(not) he have liked another glass of beer?
    5. If I had known, it be that, I wouldn't have come.
    6. They perfectly knew(that) they wouldn't pay back the Marxes, their neighbours who live across the landing. To buy both a male and a female avocado tree!!
    7. Even if it had been raining cats and dogs, I would have been there even so.
    8. Even if I had explained it to her in minute detail, she wouldn't have probably believed me.
    9. If he hadn't been forced to say "you too, my son", perhaps Julius Caesar wouln't have been killed by the two-edged sword of Brutus.
    10. Not any similar incident shouldn't have happened, if everybody had been aware of the smouldering fire.

5bis. If I would be known it be that, I wouldn't be come! "Small Opera Hat" in "The war of the buttons" a film by Yves Robert.

Manoeuvre idiote !

    On y va..
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Le moins digeste d'abord.En m'appuyant sur mes réminiscences latines, ce sera peut-être plus simple ,voire encore plus ,si je vous propose de l'argent "faut pas rêver",non plus);

A] POTENTIEL :possible ,réalisable. "Si"..présent ..,futur.
    - Si demain,j'ai de l'argent ,je t'en donnerai (car c'est toi).
    - If tomorrow,I have ....,I will give you..

    B] IRREEL DU PRESENT (Unreal present ) : à l'heure à laquelle je parle ,c'est devenu impossible.L'intention y est,pourtant. "Si" ..imparfait (simple past ,pas preterite réel,car pas révolu),conditionnel présent :would ('d) + inf.sans to. Poor you! Sorry !
-If now (today) I had money.., I would give you some.(or much..it all depends on you).

C ] IRREEL DU PASSE (Unreal past) :définitivement impossible ,irréalisable.Ever so sorry. Poor You! Poor me !
-If I had had (oh!oh!)..,I would have given you...

    - Had I known about such a correction, I would not have created such a tricky exercise !

    - If I were you, if you were me(you would suffer at the moment !),if she were us../ would + inf .sans to. "If I were a rich man..tidadidadadadadadidalaitou!)"Fiddle(r) on the roof":comédie musicale d'origine irlandaise.
-" I wish you were here" soupirèrent les Flamands Roses, The Pink Floyds,I mean. d'autres l'ont fait aussi.. Expression du souhait ."siseulement tu étais là!"

Vous respirez encore ? Have a break ! .A nice cup of tea ? Not a glass of beer at this time ,I should think ?
Le plus dur est fait !
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Le détail, maintenant :

1)- Would you dare (to)say..? Réprobateurs ou"estomaqués". Vous ne vous seriez jamais lancés. Quelle audace !
2)- Would you be able to ...?
3)- Could you say such things ..?

"Strangers in the night exchanging glances !"..Cen'est qu'un début.

" En cas de malheur" ,j'envoie !Restez, will you?

Guess what ? ..vanished again ,mon 2ème épisode d'explications I am neither kidding nor "pulling your leg(s) ".

    1) Would you dare address a stranger with such words ?

    2) Had she knocked (at the door) at least , I would have guessed (known) it was her !

3 ) If only he gave me a call every night (he cared for a (phone)call)when (he is) abroad ,I would not get so worried. (du dynamisme dans "get" :l'inquiétude monte)

    4) Wouldn't he have liked another glass of beer ? (interro-négatif)

    5) Had I been aware it were that, I certainly would not have come !*

    6) They perfectly knew they would not pay back the Marxes (The Marx brothers),the people next door (their landing neighbours). Buying a male avocado tree and a female one !(pas le but..le fait)

    7) Had it been raining "cats and dogs "(Had it been pouring down), I still would have gone there.

    8) Even if I had explained it to her (in)to the slightest detail, she WOULD not have believed me, would she ? ( she would have probably stuck to her own ideas)

    9) Had he not had to say " You too,my son !" ,Julius Caesar might not have been stabbed to death by Brutus's own hand.(Brutus's very dagger)(among others'---twenty-three wounds :one "was" deadly).

    10) No incident of that kind ,whatsoever, should have occurred ,if everyone had been aware of the smouldering fire.

*" Little Gibus " in "Buttonswars",a film by Yves ROBERT adapted from the book "La guerre des boutons",written by Louis PERGAUD.

That is all, folks. Merci encore.

1° ) A stranger . Nous les quittons "wandering in the night". # an alien (alius en latin? .Traditions différentes qui ,parfois, peuvent nous paraître étonnantes et amusantes "Queuing for a bus,a cup of tea,an ice-cream, at the toilet !". "Alien",le film !

2°) At least(less):au moins # at last (contraction de latest):enfin! Attention : the last :l'ultime # the latest : le dernier en date."Leo the last" :le dernier de la lignée.

3° ) to be :état. To get = to become :il y a une dynamique dans l'état .

Do be reasonable (impératif emphatique !).

My Teddybear !
Dans les bières : lager, ale, stout,Guiness " it looks good,it tastes good and by golly, it does you good !"...and all sorts.

7° ) Little Gibus ( a small opera hat,c'est vrai pepe).

8° ) Neighbours contient "next" (voisinage). The people next door to me:les gens d'à côté.

The Marxes. ("coconuts") .

    10° ) An avocado plant (tree) # a lawyer :avocat:homme de loi .(lex:law)

12° ) To think: plutôt péremptoire et quasi certain . A belief # a thought.

    - On peut varier les procédés : pensons au Cluedo ( jouer à l'indice "a clue" et "ludo"=jouer) :to shoot dead,to stab (arme blanche ou becs d'oiseaux hitchcockiens " stabbed" )to death ,to hang ,to strangle ("Rope "),to choke to death (pauvre Desdémone ,affreux Othello et "Dial "M" for Murder",encore un Hitchcock....and so on.

Les Cockneys ( adorables "titis" londoniens) s'y laissent un peu aller "I don't know nothing, duckie" = I don't know anything . Nobody should ever be ( so) nasty ! Things you should never say (back to the topic.)

16° ) Everybody, everyone ,all of us :le groupe entier solidaire (cela est parfois une autre affaire),pas "each one" de son côté.

17° ) To be (un)aware of : avoir conscience de..ou pas, mesurer la chose. Pétrone ,cette fois avec son "Satyricon "(faites la rime) a dit "Beware of the dog"..euh!non..en latin "Cave canem !" et Carmen a dit "Prends garde à toi !" to be conscious "est plus conscient (réalisant, bien éveillé)# unconscious ("dans les pommes ").

18° ) Il y a de "la rumba dans l'air".Hélas ,non ! Il y a de l'orage dans l'air . Le feu couvait .."the smouldering fire" the brewing storm " bridg..petite tendance pyromane ? Pardon me !
