Normally, you use an article when you give your job.
What's your job ?
I am a teacher, an electrician.
Here, as the game is quoted and defined, I would use the, meaning the leader in this game.
Sometimes we play follow-the-leader.
Sue likes to be the leader and Sam does not./whereas Sam doesn't.
