    Hello,
I'll try to provide a short explanation.
'So as' and 'so that' are both used to express purpose but the construction is different.
So as to = in order to = to + infinitive
You can only use an infinitive after 'to'.
Jessica went to the kitchen to make some tea.
The system needs support in order to function effectively.

So that + subject + verb
'So that' must be followed by a noun/pronoun and a verb.
James worked very hard so that he would do well in the exam.
Close the bottle firmly so that the liquid doesn't spill.
    Hope that helps.
Although lucile83 has already posted a link to a very good exercise, I'll add some more in case you want extra practice: Link
