J'ai voulu traduire le bout de texte suivant (écrit par Annie Ernaux).
Pouvez-vous me signaler mes erreurs s'il vous plait ?

Un dimanche après la messe, j’avais douze ans, avec mon père, j’ai monté le grand escalier de la mairie. On a cherché la porte de la bibliothèque municipale. Jamais nous n’y étions allés. Je m’en faisais une fête. On n’entendait aucun bruit derrière la porte. Mon père l‘a poussée, toutefois.
C’était silencieux, le parquet craquait. Deux hommes nous regardaient venir depuis un comptoir très haut barrant l’accès aux rayons. Mon père m’a laissé demander : « On voudrait emprunter des livres. » L’un des hommes aussitôt : « Qu’est-ce que vous voulez comme livres ? »
A la maison, on n’avait pas pensé qu’il fallait savoir d’avance ce qu’on voulait, être capable de citer des titres aussi facilement que des marques de biscuits.
On a choisi à notre place. Nous ne sommes pas retournés à la bibliothèque. C’est ma mère qui a dû rendre les livres, peut-être, avec du retard.
Traduction:
A Sunday after the mass, I was twelve years, with my father, I ascended the big escalator of the town hall. We searched the door of the municipal bookstore. Never we have be there. I was making a party of this. We not heared any noise behind the door. My father pushed it, however.
It was quiet, the ground was cracking. Two men were watching us walking throw high counter which blocks the access to the books. My father let me ask : « We want to loan books ». One of these men said immediately : « What do you want as books ? »
In the house, we haven’t thinked that we must know in advance what we want, be able to give titles as easy as giving biscuits brands.
They chosed in our place. We didn’t return to the library. My mother was constraint to give back the books, maybe, with some late.

Pour une traduction encore plus fidèle du texte d'origine, je remplaçerais votre "the access to the books" par "the access to the aisles".
