    To take place/aide
    Message de kazan posté le 02-02-2018 à 20:12:54 (S | E | F)
    Hello everyone,

I'd like to ask a few questions about the verb " to take place". Is it preferable to say:
a- The scene takes place at school
b- The scene takes place in a school?
    From what I understand,
a- means the action takes place at school, which is seen here as an institution,
b- focuses more on the building.
I find the set sentence "where/when does the scene take place?" rather bookish. Are there other more natural ways to ask the same thing? Such as maybe
"where is it?" or "When is it?" But I don't like these two questions either. They're too vague.
    Cheers,
    K.

    Hello,
    Yes, I think so.
a- The scene takes place at school ...among the pupils
b- The scene takes place in a school? ...perhaps there is no pupil

    You could say:
That scene happens in a school /occurs /befalls /breaks/ etc.
