    Meaning/any
    Message from mohammad51 posted on 28-12-2017 at 10:15:40 (D | E | F)
    Hi
Please could someone help to understand this I read online?
    Thanks for any reply.

    5. The words ‘many, neither, many a, each, everyone, every
etc... .’ require only singular verbs.
Example-1: Many a students is standing in the canteen.
I can't understand many a students. If we say many students then are not is!
Why not many a student ... Does many here means Each? Then why the indefinite article a?
What is the meaning of any here?

    Hello,
Many a students is standing in the canteen. should be: Many a student is standing in the canteen.
It means 'a large number of...' and the verb is singular.
