-Oui, le facteur me l'a donnée à l'instant,

je l'ai posée là, sur le bureau. Je la lirai tout à l'heure.

Once more we must differentiate grammatical homophones from one another. Knowing their function in the sentence

will help to spell them properly.

• La lettre de Chantal :

Here it is a definite article, we'll find it before a feminine noun. 

l'as-tu reçue ?  : =As-tu reçu la lettre ? =>

 Here it is a pronoun (standing for the letter)

+ the auxiliary verb  'avoir' in the 2nd person of the singular 

le facteur me l'a donnée  : = le facteur m'a donné la lettre  =>

 Here it is a pronoun (standing for the letter)

+ the auxiliary verb  'avoir' in the 3rd person of the singular 

Je l'ai posée là, sur le bureau. = Je l'ai posée  à cet endroit

 Here it is an adverb of location  (=there).  It  can also come at the end of a noun as an equivalent of  that.

(Cette lettre-ci = this letter /cette lettre-là = that letter)  

• Je la lirai : = Je lirai la lettre 

 Here it is a pronoun (standing for the letter)

+ a verb without an auxiliary (simple tense)
